simple vista.

As time passes we gradually forget
the names, but the sensation of that place remains.
In the majority of our journeys the information that
reaches us is so abundant for the novelty of the place,
that we are inca-pable of assimilating it instantaneously.
The information of sound is not only an exception but
usually is the least valued of our senses. Few times,
only when we close our eyes we are able to dedicate
our complete attention to it.
Sound Postcards is a collection
of audio snapshots of a length of one to three minutes
that intend to record sound experiences of various places
of the world that for their geographical, cul-tural
or social curiosity deserve special attention for being
spaces with characteristics of their own.
Sound Postcards resumes this
essence of curious and remote pla-ces of this world
under the common denominator "sound". In my
experience as an artist I have arrived at the conclusion
that sound - being frequently rated low in an image-dominated
culture - often is more suggestive than many photographs,
because it resumes and forms sensations out of reach,
aromas or presencies imperceptible to the simple vision.
The detailed and concentrated contemplation
of musi-cal/sound environments recreates many of these
moments.
During the past two years I have been traveling and
recording samples of environments of different places
in the world. Most times the everyday environment has
captivated my attention.
Therefore choosing a link between various countries
through this journey I decided to concentrate on the
environment of hotels, since it is there where we usually
lay down to rest from the tiring day and with our eyes
closed on the bed we have often listened to the world
surrounding us.
Other documents as such respond to key elements of our
collective culture and have been included for responding
to environments of emblematic places as references of
the collective history.
With the trip around the world I once again intend
to create a new collection of environments of very different
places in a very concrete period.
Sound Postcards is a unique piece
of work that in itself repre-sents a historic document
of the life at the end of the Twen-tieth Century in
itself.
